7 Reasons Why Everyone's First Job Should Be in Food Service

$

We all remember our first job. Between goofing off with co-workers, dealing with quirky managers, and working never-ending shifts, these memories certainly bring back a variety of emotions.

But regardless of what your first job was, one thing is likely to be true: It was a learning experience like no other. First jobs shape your work ethic, your skillset, and even the way you view the world. And since it essentially shapes who you are as a person, we're of the belief that you should choose wisely when it comes to your first job.

And although no first job is perfect, there's only one industry that (in our experience) can provide you all of that invaluable life experience WITHOUT the kinds of annoyances that usually come along with the territory.

The industry? Yup, you guessed it — it's food service.

The very nature of working in food service allows you to cover more professional ground in a first job than most people get in a decade of working. Sure, working in any industry has its challenges — that's life, right? — but the challenges you face in food service can be seen as huge learning opportunities when looked at through the right lens.

Here are seven reasons why everyone's first job should be in food service.

1. It makes you a better customer.

When you work in food service, you'll serve all types of customers — from gracious and generous people to those who are stressed or in a rush.

This experience teaches you what a difference a friendly face can make when you're working behind a counter, and as a result, you'll forever be the type of customer that you'd prefer to serve.

2. You'll make friends fast.

Making friends with co-workers can be one of the most intimidating aspects of a first job. But when you're working in the service industry, the bonding experience tends to be particularly quick and easy.

Why? The fast pace and constant collaboration makes one shift feel like five when it comes to getting to know people, and the resulting social aspect of the job makes it all the more enjoyable.

3. You wear a million hats.

First jobs generally train you in one or two areas, but a job in food service gives you experience in an endless number of different categories.

From dealing with all kinds of personalities to relearning math skills you never thought you'd need, a job in food service will give you a chance to do it all.

4. Your communication skills will be unrivaled.

Communication skills are required for basically everything in life — relationships, education, jobs, the list goes on and on. And if we know one thing, it's that working in food service makes you a veritable communication pro.

You get used to dealing with co-workers, managers, and customers, which will turn you into an expert communicator — something that you'll benefit from for years to come.

5. You learn what's important (and what's not).

Prioritizing is hard, no matter what you're doing. But a job in food service is sure to give you a healthy dose of perspective.

When you're juggling three different orders with a bunch of requests from your manager while simultaneously covering for a sick co-worker, you get a crash course in prioritizing what's important over what can wait.

6. You'll stay active.

Many first jobs consist of working at a desk and adopting a sedentary lifestyle between the hours of nine and five — far from ideal.

A great thing about food service is that you're constantly moving and always on your feet, so you never feel like you're just sitting around.

Bonus: An active job makes the time fly by (this has not yet been scientifically-proven, although we can personally vouch for this theory).

7. You can actually achieve a healthy work-life balance.

Unlike working in an office, working in food service allows you to have a true separation between work and your personal life. And as anyone who's ever had a first job knows, this is a hard line to straddle.

You often get to help make your own flexible schedule, and you don't have to take your work home or stay late after clocking out. Food service is pretty cut and dry when it comes to your hours, and that's just another reason why it's the best first job you can have.

Show me a person who doesn't think coffee is beautiful, and I'll show you a liar.

Even in its purest form, the go-to morning beverage is pure magic. After discovering a barista who recreates famous paintings on lattes with steamed milk, you can really color me impressed.

The simple cappuccino leaf was once enough to blow minds. Now, the so-called “CreamArt” takes things to awe-inspiring new levels, thanks to barista Lee Kang-bin. The artist only spends a mere 15 minutes recreating works like Vincent van Gogh's “Starry Night” in his Seoul shop, Café C. Through.

I'm lucky if I can get my K-cup to brew in 15 minutes, and this South Korean barista is making coffee artwork that's fit for a museum.

Did your morning mocha fix look anything like this? After heading into the office after a four-day holiday weekend, I'm willing to be you and “The Scream” share some sort of resemblance (no judgment, folks, I'm right there with you).

Kang-bin, who began brewing coffee at 17 while completing his military service, according to The Telegraph, decided to get his own machine and set up shop for other soldiers. Since then, he's certainly come a long way.

“One time I drew ‘The Starry Night' and it looked so special as the famous painting placed on top of coffee. After that, lots of people ordered that coffee,” Kang-bin told Reuters.

What's even better is that his CreamArt is not limited to famous paintings. The talented barista — who has never received formal art training — aims to please everyone, from Disney lovers to diehard Leonardo DiCaprio fans.

Next time I'm in Seoul, I am so requesting a Leo latte, though it might be too gorgeous to drink.

It's hard to believe that all it takes is 15 minutes, cream, and food dyes to create these mini masterpieces.

If it's too far of a trek to head to Seoul, you can catch Kang-bin's latest creations on social media — just make sure to follow the #CreamArt hashtag on Instagram. Had the lattes not been served in a cup, you might not be able to tell the difference between the coffee and the actual painting.

McDonald's New Soft Serve Ice Cream Recipe Is So Healthy, We Need A Cone ASAP

There's more reason now than ever to treat yourself to a soft serve cone after you've finished your lunch at McDonald's.

The fan-favorite option — a close rival to the beloved fries, in my opinion — no longer contains any artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, so digging right in will be easier than ever. Considering customers indulged in 68 million cones last year, according to a McDonald's press release,  it's safe to say many people will appreciate this guilt-free move.

If you're more in favor of a McFlurry or McCafé shake rather than a cone, you're in luck. This transition affects 60 percent of the fast-food chain's desserts, so feel free to switch it up a bit.

Even better news? This soft serve intro has now made its way to nearly all the 14,000-plus stores nationwide.

McDonald's

“We've been raising the bar at McDonald's on serving delicious food that our customers can feel good about eating,” Darci Forrest, senior director of menu innovation at McDonald's, said in a statement.

To make the celebration all the more sweet, McDonald's begun its #SoftServed campaign on Twitter on Monday, July 10. Flipping the “you got served” saying on its head, the fast-food chain will dedicate the next 24 hours to spreading positive and thoughtful messages on Twitter to those who use the #softserved hashtag.

Things kicked off from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. ET today with sweet notifications for Twitter users. Check out the ones for yours truly and my lovely editor, Amanda Fama. So sweet, right?! These messages are just as sweet as a vanilla cone and we're eating them up.

To keep the fun going, McDonald's is offering its customers a chance to score a free vanilla cone on National Ice Cream Day this Sunday, July 16.

In order to enjoy the treat, customers need to redeem the “free soft serve cone” offer on the McDonald's mobile app. Happy snacking, everyone!

9 Healthy Ways To Celebrate National Ice Cream Month That Are Still Tasty AF

$
0
0

I don't know when all of these quirky, food-centric “national” holidays became a thing (does anyone?), but despite my loathing of all things summer heat, I'll gladly scream in celebration of July being National Ice Cream Month.

Not only do I go for seconds after a scoop of mint chocolate chip, I even take one or two bonus spoonfuls before putting the half-empty pint back in the freezer.

Because, well, ice cream is life, amirite?

But sugar-packed pints can definitely leave your body feeling slow and sluggish, which certainly isn't helpful if you decide to go to Cold Stone Creamery for a midday pick-me-up cone on your lunch break.

Thankfully, there are plenty of healthy alternatives to your typical ice cream that are still absolutely delectable on a hot summer day.

Indulge smarter this summer with these tasty, healthy options tempting you to take another spoonful — and another, because why not?

1. Go For Gelato

You don't have to be Italian to indulge in the country's frozen delicacy, and this season, you can even do so with less strain on the belly!

Talenti's new Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto is made with peanuts, alkali-processed cocoa, chocolate, and coconut oil for rich, creamy flavor that melts on the tongue.

It may be vegan and dairy-free, but it still tastes like a dream.

2. Pack In The Protein

There are a few low-cal, high-protein options for fitness enthusiasts looking to meet their macros or anyone who's looking to increase their protein intake.

I'll admit, a few years back, I was not a huge fan of Arctic Zero by any means. But their new chunky formulas have persuaded me otherwise.

If you're a chocoholic, the Rocky Road Trip ice cream is nutritionally dense with a strong chocolate flavor and packed with chunks of marshmallow and toasted almonds.

Yum.

3. Don't Do Traditional Dairy

Unfortunately, lactose intolerance isn't uncommon, which makes a few scoops of ice cream potentially problematic for a lot of people.

Fortunately, non-dairy alternatives like almond, cashew, and coconut milks make it doable and delicious for sensitive stomachs to indulge.

My personal favorite so far has been the SO Delicious Cashew Milk Dairy-Free Snickerdoodle Ice Cream.

If your go-to flavor is cookie dough, you'll absolutely want to give this pint a try.

4. DIY A Bowl of Nice Cream

One of the healthiest versions of the many no-churn options out there: throw a few frozen bananas into a food processor.

It's really as simple as that.

Get fancy with additives like cacao powder, frozen berries, cinnamon, vanilla extract, almond milk, and more.

It's your churn now (see what I did there?), so top according to your taste buds.

5. Swap Waffle Cones For Open Waffle Sandwiches

How To Undo A Sugar Binge

There's arguably nothing better than growing up with a father who once worked at the Dairy Queen when he was a teenager.

Sure, he mastered banana splits and used an ice cream scooper the way an artist uses a paintbrush (precisely, with no room for error), but his waffle sandwiches were always my favorite.

Buy your favorite flavor and a pack of mini organic waffles, or waffle wafer cookies, and you're well on your way.

Simply toast or microwave one waffle, and scoop or spoon your ice cream on there while the waffle is still warm.

6. Limited Sugar Licks

How Ayesha Curry Makes Healthy, Yet Delicious Dark Chocolate Bark [Eat With Elite]

I can hear the groan all the way from the other side of this screen, but trust me, a treat can still be delicious with all the sugar.

Popsicle's no-sugar-added Fudgsicles are about to blow your mind and taste buds because, speaking as a chocoholic myself, I couldn't even tell the difference.

Yep, it's basically a miracle on a stick.

7. DIY Froyo S'mores

OK, so this one isn't ice cream in the traditional sense, but if you're looking for a healthier alternative, it gets the job done flawlessly.

All you'll need are graham crackers, vanilla bean greek yogurt, a piece of dark chocolate, and a freezer.

Compile your ingredients like you would construct a s'more, and stick your grab-and-go treats in the freezer overnight.

It's not exactly campfire quality, but it's still tasty AF.

8. DIY Yogurt Pops

Lazy Girl's Guide To Eating Healthier

On this edition of I-can't-believe-it's-not-ice-cream, grab your favorite flavor of Greek yogurt and get crafty in the kitchen.

You can purchase your own popsicle molds or stick to ice cube trays if that's easiest.

Combine yogurt with fresh fruit, chocolate chips, or coconut flakes. Cover the tray with plastic wrap, and secure popsicle sticks into each square.

Stick in the freezer overnight and voilà! Instant dessert (or breakfast).

9. Choose Fruit Toppings

Whenever I treat myself to some froyo, I always top that bad boy with kiwi, banana chips, strawberries, and chocolate chips for both flavor and nutritional balance.

These fruits contain a ton of natural sugar that's every bit as satisfying as the candy add-ons, but overall, is a lot better for your body in the long run.

I Tried Starbucks' Iced Cascara Coconut Milk Latte And It Was Summer In A Cup

As most of you may have already heard, Starbucks released yet another line of coffees and iced teas to refresh your summer months on Tuesday, July 11.

The new line consists of Teavana Shaken Iced Tea Infusions (available in Pineapple Black Tea, Iced Strawberry Green Tea, and Iced Peach Citrus White Tea), an Iced Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato (which was originally released in 2016), and a brand new Iced Cascara Coconut Milk Latte.

All of these new drinks are solid options, but because I'm obsessed with everything coconut, I decided to pass by my local Starbucks and pick up the Iced Cascara Coconut Milk Latte.

I'm not much of a sweet drink kinda gal, so I was a little apprehensive about trying this drink. I had also never had cascara in my coffee before, and I was afraid it would be too light — but boy was I pleasantly surprised.

Not only is the Iced Cascara Coconut Milk Latte a vegan drink (thank you coconuts!) it also lends itself to be the perfect summer treat.

With the mild, yet bold taste of the cascara extract, and the summery, yet refreshing taste of the coconut milk over ice, you won't feel like you're commuting to the office. In fact, it'll be more like you're on your way to a tropical vacation.

Aside from the drink's great taste, the Iced Cascara Coconut Milk Latte is super light and low on calories.

I opted for a tall since it was my first time trying the drink, and I definitely wasn't disappointed.

The verdict? I would totally recommend the Iced Cascara Coconut Milk Latte to anyone who likes refreshing coconut-flavored bevs.

It's super light, great for those avoiding dairy, and awesome if you want to escape reality and feel like you're on vacay… if only for a little while.

McDonald's

Before you start salivating at the thought of a lifetime's worth of dessert, let's start with 2017's National Ice Cream Day this weekend.

There's no better way to participate in the lovely holiday on Sunday, July 16 than to hit the drive-thru. If you download the McDonald's mobile app and redeem the free cone coupon under “my deals,” all you need to do is head toward the arches and you're golden (see what I did there?).

One lucky winner will receive the highly sought-after gold cone, which scores the lifetime supply of free ice cream. It's an intense amount of pressure, but it could be you.

Sunday is going to be straight up out of Willy Wonka.

Even if you aren't the lucky customer who receives the coveted prize, there's no better time to get in on the soft serve action: McDonald's just revealed that its ice cream no longer contains any artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. This transition affects 60 percent of the fast-food chain's desserts, including the McFlurry and McCafé shake, so the healthier options are not limited to one item.

This intro has now made its way to nearly all the 14,000-plus stores nationwide, so it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Tread lightly when you vie for the golden cone. Don't get overly excited like August Gloop… and definitely don't get pushy like Veruca Salt or Violet Beauregarde.

If you're a lover of unique ice cream flavors that you can find at your local convenience store, you know you can always count on Ben & Jerry's.

To continue the trend of ice cream innovation, Ben & Jerry's is releasing the limited edition Freezer Reprise to commemorate the band Phish's 13-night run at Madison Square Garden (MSG).

Freezer Reprise will be made with “sweet cream ice cream with a vanilla glaze, chocolate donut swirl, chocolate donut pieces, and fudge fish,” according to Ben & Jerry's.

Wait, did they say donut? OK, so how can we get our hands on this delicious new flavor?

Well, it won't be easy. The limited edition Freezer Reprise will only be available on July 21 outside of MSG, and again on August 6 during a webcast of the Phish concert at the Three Needs Taproom & Brewery in Burlington, Vermont.

This isn't the first time Ben & Jerry's has worked with Phish. You might be a familiar with Phish Food ice cream and frozen yogurt — made with marshmallow and caramel swirls, and fudge fish.

Phish Food might be a solid option if you can't get to New York or Vermont on the specified dates.

Along the years, Ben & Jerry's has released a number of limited-edition flavors, each more unique than the next. They've created Peanuts! Popcorn!, Wavy Gravy, and Dastardly Mash.

Not to mention, they've created flavors in honor of more celebrities, including:

Let's hope that Ben & Jerry's decides to bring their Freezer Reprise to ice cream shops and stores around the United States. I'd even settle for it to be available for a limited time, as long as I can get my hands on it somehow.

McDonald's is really staying true to its “I'm lovin' it” motto.

The latest menu item that has us totally infatuated is the The Blue Hawaii McFizz — a blue-green ombré blend that's almost too pretty to drink (almost).

Summer is upon us, and there's no better time to indulge in this concoction of Sprite, colored syrup, and a splash of apple juice. If you're planning on ordering a Free Tea Friday drink, it's time to switch things up.

But before you head to your local McDonald's, be aware that the Blue Hawaii McFizz is part of Japan's Loco Moco Summer Menu, so don't expect to see it on your menu.

However, now that you know the ingredients, you might as well tell cashiers what you're craving. Perhaps they'll be able to whip up the treat for you. If you're feeling really adventurous, ask for a bit of ice cream, too.

Don't sit and sulk — there's plenty to love about McDonald's in the US… especially this Sunday. On National Ice Cream Day — July 16 — Mickey D's is allowing its fans to treat themselves to a free cone. If you download the McDonald's mobile app and redeem the free cone coupon under “my deals,” all you need to do is head toward the golden arches and you're good to go.

What's even better than free ice cream? A lifetime supply of free soft serve. McDonald's is not only gifting us with free cones, but is giving loyal customers a chance to score free ice cream for the rest of his or her life. One lucky winner who scores the golden cone at the drive-thru will win unlimited cones… forever. Cue the Willy Wonka music here.

Cute Millennial Pink Pineapples Are Here To Ensure Our Generation Eats Its Fruit

If you were one to eschew your mom's plate of fruit back in the day, we've discovered a treat that'll make you rethink everything you've learned about the food group: a genetically modified pink pineapple.

The adorable millennial pink pineapple is not the snack you found in your lunchbox, but it could very well be the finishing touch to your glass of rosé. Thanks to its hue and resemblance to our favorite type of wine, it pretty much screams “20-something” and obviously needs to make its way onto your grocery list.

Del Monte has genetically modified the summer fruit to take on a new tint, according to Thrillist, and we can't wait to give it a try. Seriously, what's not to like? It's catered especially to our generation's favorite things: a light pink tinge and its potential pairings with our beloved light pink wine.

“Crop improvement happens all the time, and genetic engineering is just one form of it … Scientists make targeted changes to a plant's genetic makeup to give the plant a new desirable trait,” a representative for the FDA told NBC News.

It certainly sounds like a win-win to us. Thank you, science, for being so invested in millennials and our interests.

We do have good news for those dubious fruit-eaters who aren't quite convinced about the pink pineapple's majestic arrival. The fruit is safe to eat, but it's not clear when it will be available in stores.

But fear not: If you're craving something pink and sweet, there are certainly plenty of options to keep you satisfied until millennial pink pineapples make their way to grocery stores.

In case you've forgotten, rosé ice cream is here for your next Netflix binge while rosé popsicles combine Italian ices and your favorite vino. Feeling in need of carbs? Rosé doughnuts are also a thing, so pretty soon you'll forget all about that chocolate glaze that was once your go-to.

Once those pink pineapples hit the shelves, you better believe we'll be first in line at Stop n' Shop. See you there, millennials.

9 Easy Ways To Add Some Spirulina To Your Diet And Give Your Body What It Deserves

$

Normally, I'm up on my superfood trends before they even pop up on Instagram — but this one snuck up on me.

Spirulina, aka that pretty green powder spamming your social feed, has quickly made its way into the homes, hearts, and recipes of food bloggers everywhere, and if you haven't already, you might want to follow suit.

The loose powdered substance is a blue-green tinted algae, otherwise known as “pond scum” (tasty, right?), is a rich source of antioxidants, it's high in protein, and it's loaded with essential vitamins and minerals your body craves and thrives on.

It's super pretty to look at, but it's even better to cook with.

Kathleen Tan, Imlak'esh Organics superfoods enthusiast, says spirulina is actually one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet.

She tells Elite Daily,

It nourishes you on a cellular level; its complete protein is a key building block for every cell in the body.

It's also a powerful anti-inflammatory because of its gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) content, which can help to combat chronic disease.

Research has also shown spirulina can play a significant role in lowering cholesterol. It also alkalizes the body, detoxifies the system, and oxygenates the blood. The benefits are extensive  — overall, it's an amazing superfood!

Basically, it's as essential for your body as it is for your Insta feed.

Here are a few recipes to easily help you up your spirulina intake, and bring a little blue-green beauty to your Instagram page.

1. Sneak It Into Smoothies

An obvious for health nuts adding anything and everything to their smoothie roster, spirulina adds an extra protein kick, as well as vital vitamins and minerals.

2. Put It In A Pesto Sauce

Whoever said being healthy was bland obviously never played with their food.

The best way to dive into a healthy diet is to take your favorite dishes and polish up the recipes accordingly.

If you love spaghetti smothered in pesto, spice it up with some spirulina.

The sauce serves up a generous helping of protein and skin-loving antioxidants — and the taste is to die for.

3. Add To Lemonade

Spirulina is as fun to cook with as it is essential for your body, and with everything mermaid-esque trending these days, bloggers are coming up with creative ways to use the blue-green algae supplement as a pretty addition to their plate.

Shannon, of the plant-based vegan food blog The Glowing Fridge, came up with her own under-the-sea-inspired recipe that's a refreshingly cool and super photogenic combination of lemon juice, water, coconut vinegar, maple syrup, and spirulina.

Yum.

4. Superfood Salad Dressing

Swap your store-bought dressings for a DIY superfood vinaigrette.

Not only will the mixture have less fat and sugar as the already-made alternatives, the blue-green tint will make for an even more colorful dish.

5. Switch Up Toasty Tuesdays

I could eat toast forever — toast with jelly, toast with butter, toast with peanut butter, avocado, eggs, I'll eat it all and go back for seconds.

Put a superfood spin on your toasty Tuesday tradition with this recipe from HelloGlow that features a tapenade, which blends together fresh kale, olives, pumpkin seeds, and spirulina for an exotic taste to pair with a classic fried egg.

6. Enhance Your Energy Bites

Energy balls have bounced their way all over Insta feeds recently, and if you haven't heard of the no-bake bites, it's time to start following more foodies.

The most popular renditions have nut-butter bases for high levels of protein you can squeeze in between meals.

Simply Quinoa's recipe, however, focuses on a rich, chocolate flavor packed with superfood benefits from the likes of spirulina, maca, and cacao.

7. Put It In Your Pancakes

Now here's a stack of pancakes you can get away with eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Not that you shouldn't eat regular pancakes any time of day, but this recipe definitely has more nutritional value than the boxed stuff.

Made with buckwheat flour, coconut milk, spirulina, and cinnamon, it makes for a healthy, tasty pastry packed with nutrients.

8. No-Churn Spirulina Ice Cream

Ice cream is always a good idea, amirite?

Add a dash of spirulina to this chilled treat, and you've got yourself a delicious and super nutritious dessert.

Comprised of only four ingredients (coconut milk, agave, spirulina, and cacao nibs), this recipe from Nuts.com is gluten-free, vegan, and 100 percent tasty.

9. Put It In Some Guac

The next time you're playing hostess, put a healthy spin on your appetizer plate — and any leftovers are fair game to snack on or spread over toast for breakfast.

The five-minute prep time makes this guacamole that much more appealing, derived from avocado, tahini, and spirulina, for a heaping scoop of micronutrients.

Caffeine Lovers Will Freak When They Find Out What These Coffee Cups Are Made Of

The only thing better than coffee is more coffee, and no one is going to argue with facts, right?

Sometimes you're so enamored with your morning latte that you almost wish you could drink the cup, too. No judgment — HuskeeCup totally gets it, which is why the company created reusable and recyclable coffee cups made from your favorite caffeinated drink itself.

three black coffee cups called huskeecups coffee cups made from coffee on a wooden surface

Kickstarter

That's right — a coffee cup made from coffee. Apparently, it's made from discarded coffee husk. It's pure genius! How have I gone on this long without one?

HuskeeCups come in a variety of sizes with a one-size-fits-all saucer. Even better? This creation was designed in order to keep your bev hotter longer. In the event you get stuck in a 9 a.m. meeting and can't tend to your cup of Joe, fear not — HuskeeCup will keep your drink warm.

Me Before Coffee V. After Coffee

As an added bonus, it is dishwasher friendly and the production of the cups reduces waste material that's created in the process, according to Hypebeast.

“Our dream is to realize sustainability for cafes and home users while achieving zero waste at the farm,” the company states in its Kickstarter campaign. You can feel guilt-free while indulging in cup after cup since it's coffee for a cause.

The product's Kickstarter has unsurprisingly exceeded its $15,384 goal and reached $51,918 with a little less than two weeks to go because obviously this is something we're all dying to get our hands on.

There's no blaming HuskeeCups' current 684 backers and caffeine lovers worldwide. Research in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine just discovered that the more coffee you drink, the less inclined you are to die of an illness like heart disease, according to The Huffington Post. If you're more inclined to pick up a decaf coffee, you're in luck; the study shows the same results for both decaf and non-decaf.

Not that you need any further convincing, but you'll definitely want to keep an eye on HuskeeCup's development so you can experience the java goodness for yourself. Enjoy!

In my book, Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the best cereal of all time.

As a kid, I'd overindulge in bowl after bowl of my favorite sweet and cinnamony cereal with absolutely no regrets. I kicked the habit a while ago, but this Cinnamon Toast Crunch-free life I'm living might soon come to an end.

Why? Because General Mills just announced that my favorite cereal is getting a doughy makeover with the release of their new Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites are bite sized doughnut holes that are covered in cinnamon-sugar powder and stuffed with a creamy cinnamon filling.

And yes, if you're wondering, I'm currently drooling.

This perfect on-the-go snack can be found in your grocery store's freezer section. All you have to do is pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds and enjoy.

But Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites isn't the only new snack item General Mills has for cereal lovers this summer.

Cocoa Puff Scoops

These limited edition Cocoa Puffs are Neopolitan ice cream-flavored and will transport you back to a much simpler (and delicious) time. Find these at your grocery store, and buy them while you can.

Apple Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Apple Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal is the newest member of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch family, and it looks like Apple Cinnamon Toast Crunch is here to stay.

Apple Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a game changer, my friends. General Mills isn't playing during summer '17.

For the full list of new summer products, click here.

OK, now back to the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites. Each box will come with 18 bites and there's no word on whether this new item is limited edition, or here to stay.

Just to be safe, you should stock up while you can before they're sold out. You don't want to be forced to order your Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bites off eBay.

Did you know that Sunday, July 16 is National Ice Cream Day? Well, neither did I — but now that I have the inside scoop, I can't stop thinking about my favorite frozen dessert.

Out of the popular ice cream trends taking over your timeline, there are a few that stand out above the rest for me. Some of them include ice cream with creative cones, rolled ice cream, and of course, ice cream with alcohol in it.

In fact, alcoholic ice cream is the new rage — and its popularity makes total sense. I mean, ice cream is a delicious treat to enjoy during a hot summer day, and so are refreshing boozy beverages.

It was only a matter of time before the two were combined, and I think I speak for all frosé lovers out there when I say, THANK YOU!

To celebrate National Ice Cream Day with a boozy twist, check out the list of delicious ice cream-infused cocktails you just need to try.

The Frozen Bellini is made using Belvedere vodka, peach nectar, house-made vanilla ice cream, and fresh peaches. Oh yeah, it's also topped with prosecco and strawberries. YUM.

You can score your very own Frozen Bellini at the WET deck at the W Hotel in South Beach.

The Irish Cookie is made using two scoops of vanilla ice cream, Irish cream, and Oreo cookies. Is this real life?

The Single Scoop Sip is made with a single scoop of freshly churned ice cream, dark rum, Kahlua, and Irish Cream served in a frosted martini glass.

Grand Coral Strawberry Boozy Milkshake

This drink is considered “more than a milkshake,” and that description hits the nail right on the head. The Grand Coral Strawberry Boozy Milkshake is made with Ricardo's locally-distilled pineapple rum, Smirnoff vodka, vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, and local pineapples — all blended together and topped with chocolate chip cookies.

Find this milkshake at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in Nassau, Bahamas.

Champagne Ice Cream Sundae

The Champagne Ice Cream Sundae is made with either champagne or sparkling white wine, granulated sugar, kosher salt, and cornstarch. These ingredients are cooked and served on top off the sundae that has white chocolate crumbles and a chunky tart rhubarb sauce. Oh! We can't forget the three scoops of ice cream and vanilla whipped cream on top.

You can find the Champagne Ice Cream Sundae at Melt Ice Cream in Fort Worth, Texas.

I suddenly have the urge to travel. Treat yourself to one (or two… or three) of these treats on National Ice Cream Day this weekend!

Alert! Alert! Today is National Ice Cream Day and your mandatory participation is required. Please make your way to the nearest spoon and bowl to begin scooping.

If you're more inclined to sip than scoop your frozen treat, you're in luck. Might we suggest the magical, mystical Unicorn State of Mind milkshake?

Courtesy of New Territories

With a combination of marshmallows, licorice, cotton candy, and even a sourdough pretzel, this dessert is the epitome of celebration. Isn't that the cherry on top of a fantastic holiday? I'm ready to gobble it up with my morning coffee.

Thanks to New Territories — a New York City go-to that enhances Hong Kong sweets with a Big Apple flair — no one is left out of the ice cream celebration. Its colossal milkshake intends to combat #DairyEnvy thanks to Lactaid Milk and ice cream. These ingredients do include real dairy, but without the lactose.

If you were afraid you couldn't participate in the fun because of a dairy sensitivity, New Territories has your back.

By taking food's two favorite trends — unicorns and milkshakes — the restaurant aims to please everyone with a treat that's almost too gorgeous to eat… almost.

For all those not in New York, here is how you can make your own Unicorn State of Mind milkshake in the comfort of your own kitchen. Think of it as National Ice Cream Day's answer to Thanksgiving turkey.

People are totally appreciating the dessert's inclusivity and took to Twitter to express their gratitude.

Since ice cream is our favorite beat, let us enlighten you about ways to kick off today's holiday: You can score free treats, so make sure to figure out where to go if you want a complimentary cone. For those feeling adventurous, there's even the option to add a little booze to your ice cream, making National Ice Cream Day even more delightful.

BRB, attempting my own Unicorn State of Mind shake. Happy eating, everyone!

McDonald's Sriracha Mac Is Going Nationwide And It's Everything You Dreamed Of

McDonald's is taking its menu up a notch for the hungry customers who are looking for something spicy and cool all in one meal. Thanks to the Sriracha burger, our fast food dreams are on their way to becoming a reality.

If this order is causing a bit of deja vu, don't worry, it's not you. The kale and Sriracha Mac sauce sandwich was once available in select stores. But now, we're all being treated to the spicy goodness with the Signature Sriracha burger going nationwide at the end of this month, according to Hello Giggles.

This is definitely cause for celebration, folks.

Even better? The meal will include a spinach and kale mix as well, so you'll be getting a dose of greens with your meat. Sounds like a good plan to me — even small steps to feeling guilt-free are totally worth it.

If you're one to grab some chicken instead of a burger, that's totally fine, too. You can enjoy the Sriracha Mac sauce as a dipping sauce for your nuggets, so the spicy options are not limited to beef.

I know it's kind of a tease to talk about this news with a few weeks still left in July, so in order to hold yourself over, make sure you stop by McDonald's Sunday — National Ice Cream Day — to enjoy a free cone.

The stakes are high this year, as Ronald McDonald is taking some cues from Willy Wonka.

The person who receives a golden cone at the drive-thru will be entitled to free soft serve ice cream for an entire lifetime.

But those who aren't quite as fortunate to win the golden cone can take comfort in the fact knowing that McDonald's has worked hard to remove artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives from its soft-serve ice cream. This transition affects 60 percent of the fast-food chain's desserts, including the McFlurry and McCafé shake, so the healthier options are not limited to one item.

Hang tight, Sriracha lovers. The burger will be here before you know it.

Chick-Fil-A Releases “Family Style Meals” With Mac ‘N' Cheese And We're Drooling

I'll admit it: I'm not a great cook. If we're being completely honest, I'd much rather go out for dinner with my family and friends and enjoy a hearty meal already prepared for me than spend late hours of the night over the stove.

Thanks to Chick-fil-A, my lazy-girl dinner dreams are coming true. The beloved fast food restaurant is testing out “Family Style Meals” that serve enough steamy soul food for four people, which means dinner for your and your hungry loved ones is about to be a breeze.

The “Family Style Meals” include hefty portions of meat that'll surely fill everyone's empty stomachs and tasty new sides that are guaranteed to fulfill your craving for comfort food. TBH, they look delicious.

KFC… you scared?

Chick-fil-A

Now that you've seen a glimpse of what the meals look like, I'm sure you're dying to know what kind of options you can choose from when you order one of these bad boys.

According to Chick-fil-A, the “Family Style Meals” entrees include either a 12-count Chick-n-Strips, a 30-count Chick-fil-A Nuggets, a 4-count Original Chick-fil-A Breasts, or a 4-count grilled chicken breasts.

Like I said… this is one meaty meal (no pun intended).

Chick-fil-A

Once you choose an entree, you'll have to pick two sides from a list of seriously delicious options. The sides include Mac and cheese (YUM), Bacon Baked Beans, Fruit Cup, Side Salad, or the Superfood Side (which involves kale, according to People).

So, yeah, you'll be nice and satisfied once you and your pals are done devouring it.

Matt Abercrombie, manager of menu development at Chick-fil-A, talked about the menu item in a statement and said,

Our customers told us that they wanted an even more convenient way to share meals at home or on the go, so we worked directly with a group of parents to design every part of Family Style Meals – down to the cutlery caddy that features five unique conversation starter questions to help customers connect over mealtime.

I know you're probably excited to chow down at Chick-fil-A, but I have some news that might be a bummer depending on where you live.

The family-sized menu is currently being tested in three locations throughout the country right now: Greensboro, North Carolina, Phoenix, Arizona, and San Antonio, Texas. Customers visiting those locations can try it out for $29.99.

Let's hope they love the meal so much that Chick-fil-A needs to make it a permanent menu item throughout the country. Bon appétit, ya'll!

7 Snacks To Take On-The-Go Because Science Says The Hangry Struggle Is Real

$

Snickers said it best: “You're not you when you're hungry.”

According to scientific studies discussed in a recent post from ScaryMommy, Brain Scanner columnist Simon Oxenham says the hangry struggle is all too real.

Here's the deal: When you wait too long in between meals, your body's blood glucose level drops, releasing stress hormones like cortisol, adrenaline, and neuropeptide Y, resulting in aggressive behavior and mood swings.

Yikes.

When and what you eat dictates how you respond to the people around you and your overall experience, and this could have something to do with the fact that, between television commercials, diet programs, and food porn spamming social media, consumption is a constant concern.

Claude Tellis, co-founder of VeganSmart, tells Elite Daily,

We are constantly planning our days around food and meals; it has become a conscious thing that we think about often. So if we don't have food, it can ruin our day.

That's why now, many people pack snacks — whether it's string cheese, almonds, or an apple. Not because we are afraid to starve to death, but because we know how the lack of food for a short period can affect our emotions and experiences.

Sound familiar?

Don't let lack of snacking get in the way of your good time! Next time you're on the move doing your thang, grab any of these foods to stop the hangry struggle before it starts.

1. Granola

Whether you love the bars or the cereal, granola is one of the easiest on-the-go snacks to toss in your bag and pick at on your commute.

Julie's Real Grain-Free Cacao Coconut Granola pouch is a pre-packaged serving, made with “the best whole food ingredients” to sustain energy throughout the day.

2. Protein Bars

Lazy Girl's Guide To Eating Healthier

Personally, I'm all about the new Health Warrior Pumpkin Seed Dark Chocolate bars for a quick pick-me-up between meals.

Unlike dense meal replacement options that taste like straight protein powder, this brand's ingredient list is simple and wholesome, made with pumpkin seeds, honey, and cacao.

Pumpkin seeds are high in iron and protein, and this bar boasts a whopping seven grams to keep you full and thriving.

3. Popcorn

Popcorn is the real MVP when it comes to on-the-go indulgences (except when you take off your bra later and popcorn crumbs rain down onto your feet).

It's delicious, airy, and you can add all kinds of spices to satisfy your taste buds.

If you've got a sweet tooth, mix a baggie of popcorn with a tablespoon of dark chocolate chips, and sprinkle some cinnamon on top, if you're into it.

4. Fruit

Healthy and hearty, you can never go wrong with popping produce on-the-go.

Fruit like bananas, apples, pears, or a baggie of grapes will survive the best in your purse.

5. DIY Trail Mix

Me Waiting For Food At A BBQ

Most store-bought bags tend to include a bunch of excessive sugar and salt.

Make your own trail mix to snack on when hangry cravings get heinous, mixing together a tablespoon of Craisins or M&Ms if you need a chocolate fix, along with almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds.

6. Jerky

When Your Most Serious Relationship Is With A Burrito

Turkey, beef, chicken, fish — whatever your protein preference, there's a stick for that.

Epic Bar snack strips come in wagyu beef steak, turkey cranberry sage, venison sea salt pepper, and even smoked salmon maple for a pescatarian option.

7. Nut Butters

How Plated Built A Business Off Of Convincing People To Cook

Anything rich in nut butters tastes like a treat and will keep you full for hours.

Perfect Bars and Earnest Eats are my current go-tos for a quick bite of healthy fats and protein.

Or, go ahead and get a little jar of your favorite nut butter to stash in your purse and treat yourself to little spoonfuls of the good stuff throughout the day. Ain't no shame in that game, girl.

Happy (not hangry) snacking, friends!

Disney's New Glittery Beignets Are Taking Sparkly Sweets To A Whole New Level

Disneyland really is the most magical place on Earth, and if you don't believe me, take a look at the theme park's glittery beignets.

A slice of NOLA and nostalgia all wrapped into one, Disney's limited-edition blackberry beignets are an absolute must-buy after a day enjoying rides and posing for Instagram pics with your favorite characters.

Even if you're a huge fan of Goofy, Tigger, and the variety of princesses, you're definitely not going to be willing to share your dessert with any of them — so wait until after your photo ops to try the glittery treat.

Just look at this delightful dessert. The purple sugary goodness combined with edible silver stars is certainly enough to make the likes of Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella proud. It's glittery, magical, and delicious, and I'd be willing to snag one of these beautiful pastries any day.

If you're venturing into the mecca of childhood dreams, head to the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square for your own bag of beignets. A three-pack is $4.49 and a six-pack is $7.49.

(I don't know about you, but I was personally thinking more like a 12 or 24 pack, but that's just me.)

According to Delish, the treats are in celebration of the relaunch of Fantasmic!, an attraction that combines fire, water, and lights. So of course, with such exciting news comes an even more exciting dessert.

Hungry park-goers on social media are having a field day.

Some of those Disney visitors need to be careful with the sugar, though, otherwise it's going to be all over the ground instead of on their beignet.

Either way, these treats are truly gorgeous.

And — even more exciting news — Delish reports that a sour watermelon churro and s'mores churro (accompanied with chocolate and marshmallow dipping sauce) will also be available.

BRB, on my way to Disneyland.

It wouldn't be summer without weekend pool parties and boozy tropical cocktails.

However, if the party vibes lead to one too many alcoholic bevs, the folks behind Betches are here to rescue you from that dreaded hangover with a limited edition iced drink, aptly called the Hangover Iced Latte.

Betches' hangover iced latte on wooden table outside

Betches

The beautiful bev — which is exclusively available at The Good Sort, a vegan latte bar in Chinatown, NYC — gives Starbucks' Unicorn Frappuccino a run for its money, and guess what? It's actually good for you.

Let me warn coffee addicts in advance: while Betches' “latte” is made with nutrient-dense, healthy ingredients, it does not contain any coffee. So you'll want to order your caffeine fix separately.

Anyway, with each sip of the vitamin-packed rainbow drink, you can expect to feel your hangover melt away, thanks to powerful ingredients like blue algae, turmeric, dragon fruit, and go-to dairy alternatives almond milk and coconut milk.

Here's a breakdown of what each of 'em do.

Betches' hangover iced latte with ingredient details text overlay

Betches

Flavor-wise, dragon fruit is summer in a cup. Plus, according to the above infographic, it'll “make you age slower than J Lo.” (Sign me up.)

I've personally never tried blue algae, but it sounds like something worth drinking to banish an uncomfortable post-party feeling. Same for turmeric, which does wonders for puffy, dehydrated skin!

If vegan lattes aren't your thing, there are other ways to soak up the Betches vibes this summer.

The social media brand responsible for some of the most hilarious memes on the internet is hosting #summerofbetches throughout the month of July in NYC and the Hamptons.

From workouts to blowouts and shopping deals, there are plenty of Insta-worthy ways to get involved. Hashtag a photo with #summerofbetches, and you'll even be entered to win a trip to Tulum, Mexico.

Cheers to a hangover-free summer, betch!

Bagel Doughnuts Exist And The Internet Has Very Strong Feelings About Them

Food hybrids have become very trendy in the last few years. A new hybrid, called the Bagel Doughnut, has the internet scratching its head.

This new treat was inspired by the malasada — a Portuguese doughnut typically made with yeast — and it's usually made as a sweet (not savory) treat.

Everything from the Meatzza to the Cruffin has become popular thanks to social media, but the Bagel Doughnut has successfully started a Twitter war.

The Bagel Doughnut is exclusively sold at Washington D.C.'s B Doughnut and is the brainchild of founders Brian and Pin Chanthapanya.

All of this sounds pretty normal, so why can't the internet agree on whether they like the Bagel Doughnut or not? Well, because the Bagel Doughnut is largely savory — though it does come in vanilla bean and lemon curd flavor for those too afraid of a savory doughnut.

Some people are hyped about the savory twist on a dessert favorite.

Some users feel highly offended by this new food.

Whoa @Manette912, that's some serious passion.

And because the Bagel Doughnut is sold in Washington D.C., many are making things political.

No matter how you feel about the Bagel Doughnut, you can't deny it's a pretty interesting fusion that's been a long time coming.

Available in flavors like bacon, chive, and locs, the Bagel Doughnut will surely satisfy your savory tooth. But be sure to eat them quickly, because otherwise you'll be left with a less-than-desirable, soggy bagel according to the Washington Post.

If you do find yourself in the Washington D.C. area anytime soon, be sure to visit B Doughnut's pop-up shop in Union Market, which will only be there until August 13.

If not, I'm sure you'll be seeing many versions of the Bagel Doughnut pop-up across the country by different names.

Look out for the “Doughgel” or the “Bagnut” in a city near you.
